A Dragon Impulse
Time was never on my side and I thought that was bad enough. No it wasn't; because now I had to find a way to save myself or face life as a dragon. One week to reverse the dragon's "impulse"; the "impulse" was apparently reverting me to my "true" state.
I wasn't buying it…. I am HUMAN and nothing will ever change that. Right now I was packing my freshly unpacked possessions… I was returning home. After A night at the compound I was deemed ready to return; they thought there was no way for me to stop the change.
I was going to prove them wrong; once I finished packing I walked out into the empty living room of the bunkhouse. Barliaus stood in the open doorway smiling as I stretched my phantom tail. "You think it's so funny now… wait till I show you that I can reverse this." I spat at him
Barliaus shook his head and replied "I am not an enemy I wish you would see that."
Carelessly I pushed my way past him and out the door; my pickup was waiting for me. I reached for the handle but Barliaus grabbed my shoulder pulling me away from it. "No… this time we walk home… it will take a week to hike home. You shall be a dragon by the time you arrive home." He said to me
My mouth made an attempt to protest but it was quickly shut in pain that radiated from my chest. I gripped the part of my chest that housed my heart; "This is it… I am dying of a heart attack." I thought to myself
Suddenly my heartbeat changed; it pumped slower but stronger. My heart seemed to swell in my chest. My left hand fell out to catch my fall as my legs buckled underneath me.
Then just as quickly as it came; the pain was gone. My gaze turned up to Barliaus and I tried to ask what happened but all that came out was "Rrrrr hurrr rar crrrrn?"
Like a switch had been flipped in my brain I now spoke dragon tongue. Barliaus proceeded to speak to me in an alien language; my face reflected my confusion and Barliaus laughed.
"Do you know what language I spoke young one?" he asked in a smug tone.
Shaking my head I replied; "No I have no clue at all."
Barliaus calmly walked over and offered his paw to me. Spitefully I took it; he helped me to my feet and continued talking.
"What tongue are we speaking in?" he asked me
"English," I replied; and he smile and patted my arm.
"Just listen to how our words, that we now speak, sound." Said he as I felt my heart continue its irregular beating.
Barliaus moved closer to me and put his paw on my chest. I froze as he held his paw still over my heart for a few seconds.
"I knew you were going to be a fast bloomer!" he exclaimed
Confused I backed away and said "If I knew what you meant… I would punch your teeth out!"
He grunted and once again replied in that foreign tongue "I ma orsry ahtt ti dah ot moec ot this."
This time I focused closely on the words he spoke. "No… it can't be… how is that possible?" I asked shocked
Carefully I listened to what came out of my mouth and I heard "Hrrrn…. Arr eks rahn… frrren mrrur hrrs ayyrr."
I understood what was wrong… I was done speaking human English. My new native tongue was… dragon tongue.
Sighing Barliaus replied "We must get going… it is going to be a long walk back home."
He turned and started to head towards the forest. I followed closely behind; Barliaus didn't even stop to grab anything on the way out.
It seemed that this trip meant the end of my human life. Barliaus was very cheerful as we walked back through the forest. He made jokes and talked about my great "ancestors"
I did not respond or participate in his joy. My eyes were fixed ahead of me and my mind wandered elsewhere. We walked until it grew dark and the moon shone through the leafy trees.
Suddenly we stopped in a clearing and Barliaus lay down. I followed suit and sat at the base of an old pine tree.
"Come now Cullen… speak; show some sort of life force besides this statue that you are now." He said
The words he spoke seemed to roll right off of me. My mind would not take anything in; I was in a deep state of depression.
The wind started to pick up around me but I felt no cold. Time seemed to slow down to a halt; I looked over at Barliaus and saw he was unmoving.
"Barliaus… what is going on!?!" I started to panic
No sounds besides my voice could be heard. The trees stopped moving along with the wind. Everything was frozen in "Time… so easy to control when you are born with the ability over it." A familiar voice said behind me.
"Thogar… what are you doing here… and what have you done?" I asked standing and turning to face him.
I expected to see him as a human but I came face to face with the giant dragon from my dream. He stood there grinning like he had won something.
"I have something to tell you young one…" He started to say in a playful tone.
Quickly I dived to one side and rolled away and when I stood I found I was in the same spot.
Thogar cleared his throat and continued "I have the ability to control time… and visit other dimensions."
I stared in horror as I realized he had a tremendous amount of power. "So… what do I have to do with this then?" I quizzed him
A smile spread across his muzzle as he answered "In another dimension we have met before and you lost. You became feral and you were supposed to lead a great war."
Quietly I sat and listened to him. "What war exactly?" I asked
"The same one you are supposed to lead here… minus on group that died out in the last dimension." He chuckled
Time was still paused, I couldn't go anywhere and now I was supposed to lead a great war that I failed in another dimension. This was getting tough for me… I had to find out more on why I failed in the other alternate world.
"What other group failed then Thogar?" I said trying to sound interested
He laughed and replied "The wolves did… matter of fact they are the reason you failed… well part of the reason."
Now I was getting somewhere. Part of my failure was due to a group that had perished. Now I had to figure out the other reason I had failed.
"Nice to know… but I guess you are too chicken to tell me the rest since it could jeopardize your plans." I remarked
I seen Thogar grow angry and he replied "HA!!! You cannot stop me… you failed because of your stubbornness to stay human and I can see that it also applies here too!!!"
My mind recoiled at what had just been said. Thogar smiled and continued "That wolf girlfriend you had in the other world… oh what was her name… Krystal? Yes… well she is dead and now your friend Seth… he is my next target."
"Who is Seth… who is he I don't know him!!!" I yelled
Thogar chuckled and stated "Oh you know him better than you think… here he is called Arkos I believe."
I went to grab Thogar but suddenly he disappeared and time resumed. "What… how… where?" Barliaus stammered
Turning to face him I replied "I need to get to Arkos… now so I need… to… be… a… dragon"
